Everyone wants to stay young! Anti-aging procedures have become extremely popular. These treatments help to remove or fade lines and wrinkles, thereby maintaining a more youthful appearance.

The use of BOTOX Cosmetic™ has become the number one cosmetic procedure in Toronto as well as North America.

BOTOX^® (a purified protein produced in the laboratory) has been used safely by ophthalmologists for over 12 years for a variety of eye conditions. It was noted that these patients also experienced a significant reduction in facial wrinkles and forehead frown lines. Since that discovery in the late 1980’s, BOTOX^® has been developed and used for wrinkle reduction therapy.

BOTOX Cosmetic™ injections help to reduce "dynamic" wrinkles as well as frown lines. These are lines that are caused by repeated contraction of the underling muscles on the face. Relaxation of these muscles by the simple injection of BOTOX Cosmetic™ will help to lessen or completely remove forehead wrinkles, laugh lines, frown lines between the eyebrows, crow's feet lines around the eyes, and neck lines. In addition it may elevate low set eyebrows, and raise the corners of the mouth.

The procedure is quite simple, and only takes about 10 minutes. During your visit to the Weksberg Centre for Cosmetic Dermatology in Toronto, a small amount of BOTOX Cosmetic™ is injected with a very tiny needle right into the muscles that are responsible for creating wrinkles. There is very little if any pain associated with this treatment. BOTOX Cosmetic™ effectively relaxes the muscles that produce these wrinkles, thereby causing lines to disappear or diminish dramatically.

Patient satisfaction is extremely high. An important fact to remember is that you will not look different, but simply younger, fresher and more relaxed.

The treatment will take 7-14 days to take effect, and usually lasts approximately 3-5 months. Retreatment is scheduled when muscle contraction resumes. This keeps the target muscles relaxed, prevents them from contracting, and prevents recurrence of the lines and wrinkles.

In some instances Dr. Weksberg has reported that after several treatments, the effect of BOTOX Cosmetic™ appears to last longer. This often enables the patient to wait longer between treatments.

BOTOX Cosmetic™ is very safe. Dr. Weksberg and his staff at the Weksberg Centre for Cosmetic Dermatology in Toronto can answer any questions you may have. We will provide you with accurate information, rather outside sources such as gossip, rumors and misinformed journalists. BOTOX Cosmetic™ is used in extremely small amounts and does not spread throughout the body. Side effects are extremely rare, temporary, and reversible. Slight drooping of an eyelid may rarely occur, but reverses itself rather quickly. It is very subtle and you may be the only person that notices it.

BOTOX Cosmetic™ can be used by almost anyone however patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding or who have a neurologic disease should not use BOTOX Cosmetic™.

Other uses for BOTOX^® include reduction in sweating of hands and armpits know as Hyperhidrosis, and relief of headaches.
