Fillers for Lines, Wrinkles and Lips

SCULPTRATM

Over time, your skin loses its full, firm, youthful appearance. This is the result of a natural ageing process: your skin becomes damaged, thinner, and loses its natural elasticity. As a result, it becomes loose and starts to wrinkle. Fat tissue, which also helps to fill out your face, is lost, causing skin to sag and further wrinkle. This reduction in skin volume can make your face look thin, possibly making you appear older than you are. Fortunately, Sculptra may smooth lines and wrinkles and help your skin regain a firm and youthful appearance by restoring skin volume you may have naturally lost.

Poly-L-lactic acid, the main ingredient of Sculptra, has been used successfully in surgical procedures for bioresorbable sutures, in bone plates and screws, and as a medium for medications, for more than 25 years. Sculptra has been specially developed to repair volume contour defects in the face. More than 150,000 patients have been treated worldwide since 1999. Sculptra is long-lasting (1-2 years), synthetic, biocompatible, and biodegradable.

The technique to administer Sculptra requires a series of treatment sessions (3-5) in order to achieve the full improvement. The full correction is not obtained after the first treatment session. Sculptra is injected with a tiny needle into skin creases, wrinkles, deep folds, scars, and areas which have lost volume or areas requiring contour enhancement. There is improvement immediately after the treatment, but this disappears in several weeks. The improvement returns after several (4-6) weeks to provide a long lasting benefit. With each treatment session one sees better and fuller improvement.

As there are needles being used there is a mild discomfort. Lidocaine (dental freezing) is used in order to make this a very comfortable and pleasant experience.

Occasionally there may be some side effects, which are usually related to the injection procedure. These include mild bruising, redness, and swelling. This usually resolves within 2-6 days. Rarely other side effects may occur such as small bumps under the skin, which given some time usually disappear. It is very rare to see long lasting bumps or other allergies.
