Wrinkle Relaxers are injectable agents used for the treatment of lines that are caused by expression. Often referred to as neuromodulators or neurotoxins, they are very effective for treating frown and expression lines secondary to overactive facial muscles such as the squint lines between your eyebrows, the lines that run across your forehead and crows-feet.
Wrinkle relaxers work by blocking communication between nerves and muscles, causing specific muscles of the face to weaken. This block causes lines and grooves that are directly created by the action of these muscles to fade and disappear. After injection one sees a gradual relaxation of these lines, providing you with a more relaxed, youthful appearance. The overall effect is temporary, typically lasting between 3 and 5 months. In order to maintain the beneficial results re-treatment is necessary. Touch-up treatment is generally recommended every four months, although the interval varies with each client.
Though wrinkle relaxers indeed weaken and relax the muscles, one should not be frightened of this fact. It is this very property which makes it so useful! Wrinkle relaxers are extremely safe treatments that have been FDA approved in Canada since April 12, 2002.
The treatment is provided at Dr. Weksberg’s Clinic in Toronto Ontario and generally takes approximately 15-20 minutes. After the treatment patients are encouraged to stay upright for four hours (not lie down), and should not rub the treatment area. Beneficial results may be seen in several days but the maximum effect may not be seen for up to two weeks.
